About the Art Form
About the Art Form
One of the oldest art forms of metal casting in the world, Dhokra art was also discovered during the archaeological excavations of Mohenjo Daro and Harappan civilisation sites from nearly 4000 years ago. Created using non-ferrous metal casting technique known as lost-wax casting, the craftsmen belong to the Damar tribe and are the traditional metalsmiths spread across West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and Chhattisgarh belt.
Reminiscent of craftsmanship from the earliest known times, this tribal art form has been adapted to newer designs and innovative form structures. The primitive simplicity of this craft has stood the test of time and infallible technique is employed by modern studios across the world.
The craft has evolved today from traditional curios to home utility items and fabulous jewellery modern and contemporary in design and style!
