Add a touch of folklore, weaved with intricate motifs that tell a story through your decor! Patachitra paintings are renowned for multi-verse narratives depicted through a spectrum of colours that add a dramatic effect to any living space.
Inspired by Hindu mythology, the first and oldest design of Patachitra paintings originated with the depiction of Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra so deities could pay obeisance in the absence of physical idols. The idols of Lord Jagannath, who is also believed to be an incarnation of Lord Krishna accompanied by brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra are taken for a ritualistic bath on full-moon night of Jyeshta month, post which the idols are kept away from public eye. This striking piece titled “Krishna Avatar Lord Jagannath” is handmade in the traditional walls of Raghurajpur village in Orissa.
All our crafts are sourced directly from artisans and local ethnic communities that are unique to various states of India. Your purchase encourages their commitment to keeping the craft alive.
